Chapter 15 : Oho! I'm in trouble 

Ahmeds wedding was amazing I was glad it took place in the first weekend in my holiday so I had time to rest before the rush on campus and catch up all the work I had missed.

But with all this down time I spent most of it thinking and wondering what life would be like married.

 Ahmed and Maryum looked so happy together I felt a small pang of jealousy when  I saw them together. They are such a cute couple.

I know it's wrong to get jealous ..

So I closed my eyes and made dua Allah grant me that one’s day when the time is right.

I kept noticing couples on campus  just after the break

Well maybe this is why I this whole thing with Zaakir starred in the first place

I was lounging around reading a book when my phone made a random noise .

Well that's unusually I normally only get messages from people on campus when they need help- I swear they think  like I’m a UKZN Google - I started ignoring most of them and my phone just got quite.

I saw WhatsApp sign..thinking it's one of those aunties in the family group either posting a long message about some Islamic narration thinking they the next mufti from Radio Islam or the latest picture of the newest grandchild.

I opened it only to see an unknown number 

It read 

“Salaams how are you?” 

“I hope you don't mind me messaging you ,I'm Zayaans friend I see you around the library  in afternoon” 

“Zaakir? uhm I don't know any Zayaan” I replied 

“Oh sorry his tasleems bf  I kinda got number from her…”

“Oh okay whats up U need help with something?” Wondering why on earth is this guy texting me .

“Uhm.. not really I just wanted to chat with you ,I think you pretty but you seem quite…”

I never replied …

“Uhm you don’t mine right” he texted again

Pretty well that's a first  from a non family member my mother or naani will tell me I’m pretty but that's their duty 

Even though I had a nagging feeling about the whole thing I replied 

“Thanks yeah, try and finish work early on campus that’s why always so busy” 

“So I see you hanging out with that Muslim guy all the time you guys dating?” he asked 

Muslim guy? Are you not Muslim too I thought ...I replied anyway

“Uh uh! no we just have assignments together I don't have a bf”

“A pretty girl like you single..” was his reply  


We kept chatting over the week and I got to know him better we shared stories 

When campus started he started coming and sitting around me trying to make conservation it seemed so weird  I wasn't use to chatting to guys..


It was only later he message me “I see you very shy” 

“Jee sorry not use to talking to guys” 

“So what you think of me?”

“You seem nice why...” Okay this is getting way weird I thought too myself .

“Would you consider dating me?” He asked 

I was beyond furious “What?! are you crazy you know that's wrong” 

“But you don't mind chatting to me” he texted

I never reply

“Is it about that Muslim guy ?”

Gosh what is this guys problem just because Taahir wears his jeans above his ankle, kurta on Friday and has a beard his Muslim .,.


“You Muslim too…” I replied 

“I knew something was going on” he accused me  

“Nothing is going on its haraam to date and have relationships before marriage “ I was so angry

“Oh okay” he said  he never replied or chatted to me after that and I never saw him on campus again


It was a week later I had got over the whole thing… 

It was Yumnah had called me to show me a twitter account set up in my name with a picture of me on campus from far as the display picture.

“I was wondering why you never follow me back and then I saw the tweets to the user name” she said

I read the tweets I was shocked Zaakir had bad mouthed me to the world just because I said no 

I broke down and told Yumnah the whole story. It felt so much better.

"You better tell mummy she just got a call from Auntie Julie , I think Nabeela  told  her mother the story and you know how Auntie loves to bad mouth us." Yumnah said

Oho! I’m in trouble..
