Chapter 2 :Babies and Broken dishes

Chapter 2 :Babies and Broken dishes

Time just flew by before I knew it I was jammed packed with work.

As my naani would say time has no barakat these days

As the weeks went by I found myself lost in my own world and hardly saw friends and family expect on a Friday night when my mother insisted everyone have supper at our house

“A family who eats together stays together when we were small we should knew all our kalas and fois children today people don't even know they neighbors” she lectured anyone who tried to get out of supper

Friday night was supper night at our house and as my cooking skills where now approved by my mother

I sneakily took my dadimas mothers chicken curry recipe to try ...

I cooked the curry everyone loved it..well my dad said it was tasty and Ahmed ate almost half by himself ... my mother told him that he must stop acting like Maryam don't feed him

Ahmed cheekily replied “Maryam was stealing all the food for herself ...” poking her tummy "she was getting a bit plumy but more round"

Poor Maryam went bright red ....

“Well I'm not getting fat it's just that I'm 3 months along ....” she whispered softly

“Oh that's so cool at least the twins will have a cousins they age !” Muhammad said excitedly he was sitting near Maryam

Twins? Who's having twins I wondered

Fathima whispered loudly “you weren't suppose to tell them ...now mummy gonna tell the whole world before your mother finds out....and it's not like we going to be in durban much longer”

“Can you guys stop whispering and please tell us what's going on” Dad said loudly

“Muhammad and I are planning on adopting twins as you guys know it's not safe for me to have kids anymore And Mo got a job offer in Cape Town we going to move there” Fathima said in one breath

My mother who was on her way to kitchen dropped the prix dish she was carrying .....

Twins? Moving? Huh? Whats happening here was I really caught up in my own bubble these last week I missed so much I thought to myself

Next thing we hear a big bang in the kitchen and it didn't sound like a prix dish. ...

Way too steal Maryams thunder I thought to myself  ...

As Ahmed fired questions at Maryam

My dad rushed into the kitchen

Talk about a fast paced life ....

Season 2 Chapter 1 : High Teas And High Heels

Season 2
Chapter 1 : High Teas And High Heels

My second year on campus had started..
It was good to be back to normal routine after a 3 month holiday.

It was great to see my campus friends who were away from holiday almost the whole month.

A lot had happen during the holiday...

The first 2 weeks was spent relaxing and waiting for results to come out

I caught up on all the series I liked to watch

Amina had finished her iddat and was almost her normal self again but because we were so close I could tell that she was still affected by what had happened and was just putting a brave face on

The next week we took a road trip just me Yumnah and Ibraheem with our partners  to northern natal visiting old family friends and family, my dad had grown up in these sleepy farm towns and had worked hard to be where he is today .

It was nice to be away from the city it was quite and relaxed

These people lived a laid back life well I guess that's how life is when your town had only one street

When we got back home Yumnah had taken up the task of teaching me some cooking skills
At least my food is now edible and not burnt Ahmed was teasing me that because my  rotis are rounder , he can find me a haario poorio .
One would think that now that his married he would act more mature but nope Maryam even joins him sometimes to gang up on me.

My baking is just horrible well I did put salt instead of sugar lucky my mother tried it before she served it to the guest

My dad had also surprised us with a holiday away to Warmbaths for a week. The whole family including Fatima and Muhammad ... Ahmed and Maryam. Which was really cool we stayed at the forever resort it was loads of fun hot springs sightseeing  and bathing in the sun , oh but we never really get a tan because my mother refused to let us be  nangi goris  so our  shorts below the knees and t-shirts over our swimming costume and a whole bottle of sun screen .. You know how Indian mothers are...

When we returned back I was just in time for the wedding preps for Zeenats wedding

2 weeks before campus started the girls and I got together to host a high tea for Zeenat , she got married the week be campus started

The high tea was amazing it was just a few girls from school and Zeenats new campus friends and her cousins

We never have unda dunahs bridal shower like the older aunties would have said

Just a few games like bridal bingo and a really funny game  Zahra and Lutifa hosted they blindfolded Zeenat and made her take out items of clothes that were miss matched and too small while Zahra read a story explaining that the lights had went at the hotel room and Yusuf had called the hotel handyman and she had 2 mins to throw on what ever see could find in the dark

After the bridal shower the girls had stayed over at my house and we had a pamper night -manis , pedis and a spa treatment

Things had gone back to normal after Zeenats wedding
and my mum had got over the proposal hold and Yumnah was back on the samosa run

There is sure to be a lot of drama happening in my house...
